Monastir

Located at 165 km in the South of Tunis, and is at few kilometers from Sousse, Monastir was transformed in the 20th century into a touristic city (seaside resort).
The presence of the ribat in the current city center of Monastir informs on the military role of the city in the Middle Ages.
Monastir is also the hometown of Habib BOURGUIBA, 1st President of the Republic of Tunisia. His mausoleum is located in the downtown, it welcomes thousands of visitors every year. Monastir is also home of the ancient city Ruspina’s ruins.
